Our client in Kitchener is looking for a Tool & Die Maker or a Tool & Die Apprentice to join their team in a full-time permanent role!

The Tool & Die Maker position, along with the apprentices, will repair tools based on specifications provided on blueprints, will communicate with the engineering team and also interact with the machining group in regards to the progress of components for a tool.

Excellent compensation package including hourly rate between $33.37-38.63/ hour for licensed T&D and $21.90-32.37/hour for apprentices.

This position also requires shift rotation: 2 weeks days, 2 weeks afternoons, 2 weeks nights.

Required Skills:

  • High School Diploma. Certified Tool and Die Maker required.
  • At least two years of experience beyond certification, in a similar industry, would be an asset but apprentices will be accepted as well.
  • Must have good knowledge of, and be able to use, standard toolroom equipment such as drill presses, milling machines, grinders, lathes, overhead cranes, band saws, micrometers, verniers, height gauges.
  • Must be able to read blueprints and schematics.
  • Some knowledge of the building and repair of progressive and transfer stamping dies required.
  • Welding skills are needed as the position may have to use welding techniques to repair tool steel components.
  • Must be able to lift at least 50lbs.
  • Good oral and written communication skills for normal business communication.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Repairs dies and tools by determining the needs and methods, and implements as required.
  • May be required to build and develop new dies/tools and implement product changes based on specifications provided by engineering. The position reviews die blueprints to check for functionality prior to assembly. Assembles tools, analyzing the design prior to inserting die in tryout press. Checks tool accuracy and production capabilities in the tryout press and troubleshoot problems to ensure a smooth transition to production.
  • Directs less responsible toolmakers and apprentices. Checks the work of others to ensure the quality of their work. Directs the work of press operators when a tool is ready for production in order to learn about and trouble shoots any problems.
  • Follows and performs to the processes and instructions as outlined in procedure manuals.
  • Compliance to all company HR policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for working safely, complying with safety policies and procedures, and wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) required in the designated areas as per company policy.
  • Responsible for keeping a safe work area and reporting any unsafe working conditions, practices, and work-related injuries immediately to his/her Supervisor or Manager.
  • Any other job-related duties as may be assigned from time to time by the Team Lead, Supervisor and Manager.
