Our client in Waterloo Region is looking for a Controller to join their team in a full-time permanent position, as part of the Finance Team of this exciting and growing work environment!

As the Controller, you will lead all the financial operations and provide information and insight to the management team, to drive strategic focus!

Required Skills:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
  • CPA (Chartered Professional Accountant) preferred designation
  • 2+ years of experience in accounting or finance, with a strong foundation in financial reporting, budgeting, and analysis.
  • Supervisory experience is an asset
  • Experience working for a smaller business where you are happy wearing multiple hats
  • Ability to be hands-on and take on some of the accounting duties such as payroll, reporting, an consolidations
  • A good understanding of GAAP, tax regulations, and financial compliance.
  • Highly analytical with an ability to interpret complex financial data and present it clearly.
  • Strong communication skills, capable of working with cross-functional teams and reporting to senior leadership.
  • Able to travel daily to the office worksite

Key Responsibilities:

  • Financial Reporting & Analysis:
    • Assist in preparing and presenting accurate, timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in line with GAAP.
    • Analyze financial results, trends, and variances to provide actionable insights that help drive informed decision-making across the company.
  • Budgeting & Forecasting:
    • Support the annual budgeting process to ensure alignment with the company’s strategic objectives.
    • Develop and maintain multi-year financial forecasts, assisting in tracking performance and making adjustments as necessary to meet goals.
  • Cash Flow Management:
    • Help manage cash flow to ensure sufficient liquidity to meet operational and financial obligations.
    • Prepare and manage working capital forecasts to ensure efficient financial operations.
  • Internal Controls & Compliance:
    • Assist in maintaining and strengthening a robust system of internal controls, ensuring the protection of company assets and accurate financial reporting.
    • Ensure compliance with tax regulations, accounting policies, and financial standards.
  • Team Support & Development:
    • Work closely with the accounting and finance team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance environment.
    • Assist in training and providing development opportunities for team members to help enhance their skills.
  • Audit Coordination:
    • Support the coordination of internal and external audits, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
    • Help prepare schedules and provide documentation to auditors as needed.
  • Cost Accounting & Financial Planning:
    • Assist in reviewing cost structures and contribute to cost reduction strategies while maximizing profitability.
    • Support the implementation and monitoring of financial planning tools to assist with decision-making.
  • Taxation & Regulatory Compliance:
    • Assist in the preparation and filing of tax returns, ensuring the company’s adherence to tax regulations.
    • Stay up-to-date on changes in tax laws to ensure continued compliance.
  • Ad-hoc Reporting & Strategic Projects:
    • Provide financial insights and reports for special projects, strategic initiatives, and business expansion activities as required.
    • Assist in financial modeling, due diligence, and support for acquisitions to help drive growth and performance improvements.
