Assistant Controller
Overview
Are you a Senior Finance Manager or Senior Accountant or even a recent CPA grad looking for your next career move!
Our client in Waterloo Region is looking for an Assistant Controller to join their team in a full-time permanent position.
As the Assistant Controller, you will lead all financial operations and provide insight to management to drive business!

Required Skills:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
- CPA (Chartered Professional Accountant) preferred designation
- 2+ years of experience in accounting or finance, with a strong foundation in financial reporting, budgeting, and analysis.
- Supervisory experience is an asset
- Experience working for a smaller business and comfortable being hands-on with some of the accounting duties.
- A good understanding of GAAP, tax regulations, and financial compliance.
- Highly analytical with an ability to interpret monthly/ yearly financial data and present it clearly.
- Strong communication skills, capable of working with cross-functional teams and reporting to senior leadership.
- Able to travel as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in preparing and presenting accurate monthly, and yearly financial statements in line with GAAP and within timelines.
- Support the annual budgeting process to ensure alignment with the company’s strategic plans.
- Help manage cash flow to ensure sufficient cash on hand to meet operational and financial obligations.
- Assist in creating and maintaining internal controls, ensuring the protection of company assets and accurate financial reporting.
- Ensure compliance with tax regulations, accounting policies, and financial standards.
- Work closely with the accounting and finance team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance environment
- Assist in training and development of team members.
- Support the coordination of internal and external audits, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements
- Assist in reviewing cost structures and provide cost reduction strategies to maximize profitability.
- Assist in the preparation of documents for auditors and for filing of tax returns, ensuring adherence to tax regulations.
- Provide financial insight and reporting for special projects, strategic initiatives, and potential business expansion activities.
