Inventory and Cost Accounting Clerk
Overview
Our client in Elmira is looking for an Inventory and Cost Accounting Clerk to join their team in a Full-time permanent position!
The inventory cost accountant will have an understanding of an Inventory Management System and be able to prepare reports summarizing cost data and variances analysis.

Job Responsibilities:
- Develop systems to monitor and control costs.
- Ensure billing price is correct and corresponds with the contract price.
- Perform the reconciliation of the Inventory and Non-Inventory Accrual accounts
- Co-ordinate cycle counts and results to improve accuracy of perpetual inventory.
- Troubleshoot issues that arise from the cost of the purchase and Inventory
- Prepare inventory adjustments for stock and non-stock items and book closing journal entries relating to inventory.
- Receiving and production data entry
- Often recommending strategies to reduce expenses and improve profitability.
- Maintain the integrity of the average cost data in the system.
- Complete other duties or special projects as required.
Month end Reconciliations:
- Coordinate closing the inventory at month and year-end.
- Maintain the inventory subledger and reconcile against the General Ledger through the valuation reports.
- Ensure price variance is acceptable in range of changes
- Monitor inventory transactions, update general ledger, gather and analyze data, perform audits and assessments, and produce regular inventory reports.
- Observe and be alert for any inventory inconsistencies and discrepancies, dealing with them according to proper policies and regulations.
- Update physical inventory counts, review variances, and post adjustments.
- Maintain the inventory reports and request updates from the team.
- Analyze variances and discrepancies for various accounts
- Running specific inventory reports or inquiries as required.
Skills Requirement:
- 3 years diploma in accounting.
- Minimum of 2-3 years of hands-on inventory/cost accounting experience or equivalent in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of product costing and inventory management
- Ability to deliver consistent, high-quality work, with a superior level of attention to detail.
- In-depth knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Comfortable in a rapidly changing environment
- Ability to successfully work independently
- Strong written and oral communication skills
