Our client in Waterloo Region is looking for a Director of Finance to provide leadership to the team in Financial Reporting and Accounting Control!

In addition to leading the finance and accounting team of this faith-based organization, the Director will work together with the Leadership team to develop strategic plans and new organizational initiatives! The director will also ensure compliance with all legislation and general accepted accounting practices.

Skills and Experience:

  • 10 previous years’ experience in a financial management role
  • Master’s degree or equivalent education in Accounting and Finance – CPA designation required.
  • Experience in a non-profit environment is a definite asset
  • Strong leadership abilities and support for Christian values
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to support the organization in strategic planning.
  • Analytical thinking processes and excellent problem-solving skills
  • Professional demeanor and strong communications skills
  • Ability to manage a demanding schedule and variety of work hours with some travel involved.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership analysis and recommendations when Finance & Accounting standards appear to conflict with the organization mission and vision.
  • Oversee the timely and accurate preparation of financial statements in accordance with GAAP and identify opportunities to streamline reporting processes.
  • Coordinate with external auditors for annual audits and address any audit findings.
  • Develop and implement internal control policies and procedures and monitor effectiveness
  • Foster a collaborative and high-performance culture within the team.
  • Prepare and file all required government reporting
  • Support budgeting and forecasting processes.
  • Ensure data integrity and accuracy within financial systems
  • Ensure compliance with appropriate legislation and oversee the financial systems throughout the department.
  • Provide input to organizational Strategic Priorities and the development of the Strategic Plan.
  • Responsible to formulate department operating plans to achieve relevant outcomes identified in the Strategic Plan.
  • Develop Partnerships with Executive Directors and Director to ensure consistent, responsive approaches to reach organizational outcomes.
  • In support of the Achievement, Accountability and Responsibility Structure, report on outcome measures, including department progress, areas of risk and mitigating strategies.
  • Implement processes/ policies in the areas of Finance & Accounting to ensure policies follow the Values, Mission and Vision of the organization.
  • Lead recruitment, orientation and performance management for employees in the Finance Department and provide coaching, and technical expertise to members of the team.
  • As part of the Leadership Team, provide recommendations to Senior Leadership on Operational matters, Finance matters and organizational policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for identifying areas of risk, gathering appropriate data, undertaking appropriate analyses, making recommendations and implementing appropriate solutions.
  • Advance the values of the organization by developing and delivering presentations at community gatherings, soliciting support and belonging in the community.
  • Lead, engage in, and cultivate relationships and opportunities to meet assigned fundraising targets or solicit support toward organizational outcomes.
