Human Resources Assistant – Part-time
Overview
Our client in Waterloo is looking for a Human Resources Assistant to join their team in a part-time position!
This position would work 20-25 hour per week and be responsible for Health & Safety, Recruitment, training and HR/ Benefits Administration!

This role will start out on a part-time basis, 20-25 hours per week, with the potential to become full-time by taking on added HR responsibilities such as payroll processing for Canadian and U.S. operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Health & Safety (Primary Focus)
- Chair Joint Health & Safety Committee and maintain meeting minutes
- Lead monthly safety walk-arounds and complete reports
- Review and update safety procedures and handbooks (Waterloo and Batavia)
- Manage WSIB reporting and disability claims
- Maintain Safety Data Sheets, training logs, and employee certifications
- Coordinate safety training with supervisors
Recruitment & Onboarding
- Create job postings and screen applicants
- Coordinate interviews and conduct reference checks
- Prepare employment contracts and required documentation
- Conduct orientations and manage onboarding/offboarding
- Coordinate training with supervisors
Benefits & HR Administration
- Administer group benefits and Pension Plan (enrollment, changes, terminations)
- Maintain employee records (manual and digital systems)
- Administer apprenticeship programs with Ministry of Labour
- Process personnel documentation for Canadian and US operations
- Review and update employee handbooks and company policies
- Assist in managing vacation tracking and prepare HR reports
- Assist with company social events
- Occasional travel coordination for managers (as needed)
- Other HR-related duties as required
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education in Human Resource Management
- 2+ years HR experience in manufacturing environment
- Working knowledge of Ontario Employment Standards, Human Rights, and Health & Safety legislation
- Experience with full-cycle recruitment and H&S compliance
- First aid and Health & Safety certification (or willing to obtain immediately)
- Strong discretion and confidentiality
- Proficiency with HRIS systems, Microsoft Office, and Excel (data tracking, reporting)
- Comfortable working independently with minimal supervision
- Working towards CHRL or CHRP designation will be considered as ASSET
- Multi-location operations experience (Canada/US) is an ASSET
- Apprenticeship program administration experience is an ASSET
- WSIB claims and disability management experience is an ASSET
